Disconnect

Disconnect

So much of living is missed moments when
Instead of paying attention where we are
We text or talk to someone distant and
Distracting us from now and here again,
Our actual lives remote, our minds flung far,
Distance ourselves from what we understand.
Standing in line look closely at the hair
And notice smells, the tone of voice each uses
Placing an order, feel the changing air
As the line moves ahead and each one chooses
A spot to wait none noticing the care
The young barista gives each cup and loses
Herself in singing prerecorded tunes
Recapturing now for disconnected loons.
